Our Story
Coleman’s evolution has been led by founder and CEO Matt McClean, combining his banking experience with his entrepreneurial instincts.
In 2012, Matt exited Morgan Stanley after raising their Wholesale Equities division from No.6 to No.1 in the market in just four years. After a similarly successful spell at KCG Europe, he founded Coleman in 2014.
Matt’s vision was to create a proprietary trading operation with the elite performers he’d encountered throughout his career. Key to this was calling on the unique talents from within the team, who built out the firm’s trading and risk management infrastructure through which Coleman still trades its own book today.
The ambition was to establish a dynamic ecosystem of trusted industry leaders beyond Hedge Funds, and extending to Real Estate.
A significant development came when some close, respected associates asked if they could invest with Coleman’s proprietary trading team via Managed Accounts. By 2017, Director Jamie Fox had joined Coleman to help build deeper, symbiotic relationships with these investors. This value exchange then led investors to suggest supplementing the Managed Accounts with a fund structure that offered risk-adjusted returns. Since then, by combining our actively managed philosophy with a liquid hedge fund format, Coleman has been able to demonstrate publicly its ability to deliver attractive absolute and risk-adjusted performance across the market cycle.
With investor confidence growing and Coleman looking to diversify our own alternative investments, Matt again turned to his network. This time, the ambition was to establish a dynamic ecosystem of trusted industry leaders in other alternative investments, including Real Estate.
Today, our private investment boutique offers investment partners genuine diversification without compromising performance, as we leverage our ability to enact more creative and differentiated strategies across asset classes.
